A brand new How to Train Your Dragon 2 poster was released today! Like 32% of you thought in this week's poll, it's a poster of Ruffnut and Tuffnut and their Zippleback! It came with this description:
Ruffnut and Tuffnut are grumpy brother-sister twins who bicker constantly and are forced to share a two-headed dragon. Both characters are fearless and a bit reckless at times. While Tuff has been able to get by just fine with his off-putting personality, Ruff's unladylike behavior causes problems. No wonder she's the last single lady on Berk!
The description was changed quickly after it was posted. If you don't mind spoilers, here is a screenshot of the original post (thanks, loosescrewslefty).
What do you think of the new poster?
She didn't seem to have problems with getting boys in the trailer. But then again it's Snotlout where talking about.
ReplyDeleteYay! They bunched the twins! That's great, I wonder who the last poster will be. I'd LOVE to get a Valka! Wait a second... are they hinting at something with Ruff's personality keeping guys from liking her? I hope we don't spend too much time on that angle, but at least its interesting!
ReplyDeleteThe next one will be a sharp class according to the official HTTYD web site.
ReplyDeleteI agree they should not spend much time on ruff"s personality. It would be..........weird.
ReplyDeleteCool photoshoping, but why you didn't upload the images to some image hosting service? Blogspot downscales the images to 1600 pixels.
ReplyDeleteI think the one on the right is Belch and the one in the left is Barf.
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily, the placeholder for the Fishllegs poster had a mystery class symbol.
ReplyDeleteWow! How sweet ^^
ReplyDeleteI was hoping they would get individual posters :( Oh, and Tuffnut seems to have dreads :D
ReplyDeleteyou think its a real poster? (there is a bigger post:https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=274695482687597&set=pb.270770589746753.-2207520000.1391104002.&type=3&theater)
ReplyDeletetotally agreed:)
ReplyDeleteWatch these, and try don't laugh!XP
ReplyDeletetuffnut looks a lot different yet still the same.
ReplyDeleteExept the little break in the tongue. xD
ReplyDeleteBut it's nice that he is so fast with uploading and editing all of the new stuff.
look at his toothy grin haha
ReplyDeleteI was actually hoping for a seperate picture for each one of them....
ReplyDeleteyea me too but i like it like this
ReplyDeleteThe one next to Ruff has to be Barf and the head next to Tuff must be Belch.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just the way the poster is such a close shot of their faces, but they don't seem to have aged nearly as obviously as the other characters who've been revealed so far. Other than Tuff sporting the beginnings of a beard, they look almost exactly the same as they always have.
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping their not hinting at anything wierd with Ruff's personality that would be so annoying.
ReplyDeletedid the website not load the comments for all of you too
ReplyDeletetheir are two posters left probably snotlout and valka or stoick
ReplyDeletei think they look like always....i was expecting something more amazing
ReplyDelete,
I updated it! Blogger does reduce the size to 1600 by default, but it does let you post higher-resolution versions of images: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-erfnUZ36kFc/UuqJaKJZRxI/AAAAAAAACiE/r5op-ZUrOfI/s2400/twins.jpg.
ReplyDeleteTuff's eyes look too big..
ReplyDeleteOmigosh! Older Ruff, Tuff, with Barf and Belch! My favorite quartet is growing up! *O*
ReplyDeleteTuff somewhat still looks the same, Ruff's chin is so pointy, she almost looks like a witch... and she still single? The only single lady left on Berk? No wonder, she's so tomboyish. I wonder whether she will end up with Fishlegs or Snotlout... I can't wait to see them kick butt (and more bickering)
Barf and Belch show more expression than they did in the series... They look so happy :D
Me too. This poster looks so cheerful :D
ReplyDeleteThe "2" seems oddly appended there, so aykroyds just slapped it on, but it's definitely an official cap!!! *squee*
ReplyDeleteSo if Snotlout is the only one left, there's still a chance of a Valka poster! :D
ReplyDeleteI think next to Tuff is Barf and next to Ruff is Belch. Look for their horns for the difference; Barf's nose horn is more curved than Belch's.
ReplyDeleteWell it could be the cropping like you said. Ruff seems to be getting older, just in the way she looks more mature, more of a woman, and Tuff's stubble has actually been there in the first movie, so that's not too big of a change.
ReplyDeleteI guess the next should be Snolout and Hookfang...
ReplyDeleteAnd probably Drago, Eret or Stoick too :D
ReplyDeleteWell... to think that she actually has the smallest role of all the characters, I'd be perfectly fine if she receives some development, so long it doesn't dominate or take more portion than the actual main plot...
ReplyDeletesooooo.... Ruffnut and Eret?!?! REALLY?? OMG...
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that, except the 2 curves the same way the text does and has the same perspective, which makes me think it's an alternate (Or older?) logo.
ReplyDeleteA point. Maybe it was an older version.
ReplyDeleteRuff and Eret nooooooooooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteSnotlouts not going to be happy :P
ReplyDeletecan't wait for next thursday
ReplyDeleteI know right! I cant wait for june 13! and i think we all know why! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here trying to process what I think of that, and I'm just not sure. It's been hinted that Eret may not ultimately be a villain, but if he softens/changes sides for Ruff, that's something I would have never seen coming. Hinging a major twist like that on a character who has mostly been comic relief up to this point is a huge gamble that could either be brilliant or a weakness in the plot that I probably can't have a final opinion on until I actually see it. I just hope they don't spend too much time distracting from Hiccup's story with this sub-plot.
ReplyDeleteIm hoping for Valka or Eret since we haven't seen him yet :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like an alternate version to me, just so that the logo could fit in that space instead of moving it over and creating a bad design compositionally
ReplyDeletethe ruffnut thing is not ok on any level... angry face....... I'm sharpening my pitchfork as we speak
ReplyDeletehaha yea i am going to buy a torch and pitchfork
ReplyDeletewe don't really know what eret is like yet though
Its not about the Eret thing for me, its about the fact that they went out of their way to say that what Tuffnut being single and off-putting is totally cool and awesome but for Ruffnut, its a problem because she happens to be a girl. Its like they were intentionally looking for the most offensive and sexist way to make that statement.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful
ReplyDeleteNo.... NO! How could they introduce a romance relationship with Ruffnut! Let alone with another largely main character! This quite quite a huge let-down :(. I was hoping that this movie would focus MORE on Hiccup's story than waste time on a pointless side-story like this. Besides, the Twins are there for comic relief, not serious plot points.
ReplyDeletePerhaps (and I say this respectfully) it is a cultural thing with the Vikings. What I mean by that is that guys are expected to be crass and annoying and the people of Berk think that is cool, so Tuff is fine. But the fact that Ruff is might rub their cultural view the wrong way... maybe the guys just don't like being out-vikinged. Anyway, just a possibility.
ReplyDeletetrue
ReplyDeleteyea that's true
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know who this is and is he from HTTYD 2 because he looks viking like
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know who this is and is he from HTTYD 2 because he kind of looks viking like
ReplyDeleteYeah... we'll have to wait and see. I'm wondering if Eret will actually return the affection. By the way it is worded it almost sounds like Ruff will be chasing him... and that could be more comical and not draw to much precious time out of the plot. Anyway, I am with you in that I can't really have an opinion on it unless I see how they handle it! I do just sooooo want to see a very Hiccup/Toothless heart to this story, and it would be a shame if we did not get it...
ReplyDeleteoops i posted him twice
ReplyDeleteBut isn't it good that they're not ONLY comical characters? After all, they're part of the group.
ReplyDeletethat's a good point
ReplyDeleteTrue... and they were much better in the movie than they are in the series. Who knows... this could get handled well, but I still hope to have a strong Hiccup and Toothless centered plot amidst all this crazy new development.
ReplyDeleteyea i like how their will be the main plot while still their are side stories
ReplyDeleteBut to me at least, what made the first movie so special was the sole focus of Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid and Stoick. NOT the twins, Snotlout and Fishlegs
ReplyDeleteAnd the series focused WAY to much on those side characters imo... I do want to see them mostly remain side characters. Sure, they should be part of the group, and I am happy to see them develop, but don't use too much time on it!
ReplyDeletebut it probably won't be a big part in the movie
ReplyDeletePerhaps it won't hurt to give them some depth, but there's only so much time in a given movie. If you open up too many sub-plots, you run the risk of things becoming too jumbled and detracting from the heart of the story.
ReplyDeletetrue but their dosen't seem to be that many sub plots going on
ReplyDeleteI agree. Hiccup and Toothless will still have the biggest part.
ReplyDeleteUm... yes there does! Haha, dragon war, Hiccup growing up, Hiccup becoming chief, Hiccstrid development, looking for more Night Furies, Valka (which could go in a bazzilion directions), a new dragon to rival the Red Death, and now Eret and Ruff... There are a lot of possible subplots!
ReplyDeleteBut most of them are about Hiccup! So nothing to worry about, I think
ReplyDeleteall of those things are still part of hiccups journey dont you think
ReplyDeleteYeees
ReplyDeletebut the thing is, its a fantasy world. Why do they have to go there in a fantasy world? Why cant they just make this a world where women are treated respectfully and like equals for once? Whats wrong with that? This is a movie largely targeted at children, they shouldn't be sending this message to them, especially the girls.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, that's inherently assuming it isn't a good thing - which it isn't. So simply being a small part of the movie is not much of something to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteYou're using too difficult words :)
ReplyDeletei don't think that most girls act like that i mean some tomboys might act a little like that but not a lot
ReplyDeletei have 4 sisters i would know but i guess girls would still know better i guess i would want that to happen to me so i can see how you would get that message
i think its eret
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right about that. Hiccup and those you mentioned first are the ones who made the movie so incredible.
ReplyDeleteNo I mean should there be a picture or something
ReplyDeleteIts not about whether or not girls act exactly like ruffnut, its about sending the message that the most important thing to girls should be that they are appealing to men and that they are not complete without a man
ReplyDeleteI didn't think of it that way, and you make an interesting point. Although the way it's worded that she's the last single lady in in Berk until Eret comes along kind of suggests that they do eventually get together the way I read it. I'll withhold judgment until we learn more.
ReplyDeleteIt would be absolutely weird if we didn't get it.
ReplyDeletethat is true they should not feel incomplete with out a man they are fine with or without one
ReplyDeletein America these days girls always seem to think that they do though its is kind of sad
Where did you find this? The drink he's holding looks completely out of place for an official picture.
ReplyDeleteIs there something I'm not seeing...?
ReplyDeletei know right i found it on Google it says it is from HTTYD 2?
ReplyDeletetheir is a picture posted under my first post
ReplyDeleteis it not loading it?
I cannot see the pic, but perhaps it is my computer or something
ReplyDeletemaybe
ReplyDeleteWeird.
ReplyDeleteyea someone play the twilight zone theme song jk
ReplyDeleteAha okay. Weirder.
ReplyDeleteHOLY F***ING GOD... SHE'S GOING FOR ERET???? That is so messed up... Reallu unhappy with Dreamworks right now...
ReplyDelete***Possible spoilers****
ReplyDeleteSo I just found a description of Eret on the how to train your dragon wiki :-)
Not quite sure how accurate this is though.....
/Eret, introducing himself as the Son of Eret, is a dragon trapper and one of the antagonists of How to Train Your Dragon 2. He is voiced by Kit Harington from the Game of Thrones.
Eret is 25 and has a cocky attitude. He sells the dragons he traps to Drago Bludvist.
According Comic Con footage he has a bit of a Gaelic look to him, is
very confident, and is very, very good at trapping dragons. Dean
Deblouis has mentioned that he and Hiccup will rub shoulders often in
the next film, and that Eret is comically slow at making comebacks when
talking with Hiccup. It has been mentioned several times that he will
have an interesting character arch, but what kind of arch that will be
is left in question./
I ended up finding one more picture of....... whoever this is supposed to be on some bootleg wallpaper type site that. It was a screenshot-like image of him sitting at a table with the same glowing pink drink in front of him. There wasn't a source listed.
ReplyDeleteIf it's fan art, then it may be the best animated fan art I've ever seen. On the other hand, something just feels a bit off about the images to me for some reason. They look nothing like the posters and screenshots we've been getting of other characters. I have no idea what these are.
Well, I quess us Rufflout shippers aren't going to get what we wanted to see since Ruff wants to be infauted with Eret... Ugh. That just pisses me off...
ReplyDeleteI'll never be able to get onboard this ship... Stupid Dreamworks why do you have to make her like Eret... :(
ReplyDeleteBottom right looks like he's trying to impersonate Edward Cullen. Little does he know, he's ALWAYS looked better than Sparkleface. XD
ReplyDeleteActually it was a strike class symbol.
ReplyDeleteGood call. With your info, I was able to find it definitively. It's a short (less than a minute long actually) called "One More Beer!" by an independent Brazilian animator named Pedro Conti. Definitely not HTTYD related although he seems to have taken considerable inspiration from it the short's animation style. Mystery solved!
ReplyDeleteWow. They are so...SCARY!
ReplyDeleteOh great, just what we need, another subplot, and a trite romantic one at that. You know, given we've yet to see an actual purpose for Hiccup and Toothless, who are supposedly the main characters in this, in the main plot, I'm not exactly filled with confidence for this movie. I'm really feeling the need for some good news.
ReplyDeleteAs for the picture, it's fine. Nothing awe-inspiring or anything, but fine.
Bottom-center: "Dude, I'm soooooo high..."
ReplyDeleteBottom-right: Oh yeah! He likes it when Astrid pulls that braid! ;D (This also goes perfectly with a crack-fic I wrote! http://dragonwolfotaku.deviantart.com/art/HtTYD-2-Hiccup-s-Braid-385728461 )
I Actually Ship It :) I Mean Ruffnut Also Deserves Some Attention. She IS Part Of The Group After All. But If Eret Hurts Her And It Turns Out He Was Lying Imma Be REALLY Upset!!! Pls let Eret Be A Sorta Bad Guy Until He Meets Her! Oh Gosh I Cant Wait!!! 😂😂😂😆😆😆😉😉😉
ReplyDeleteNow THIS is what I want How to Train Your Dragon 2 to be like!
ReplyDeleteThis image basically captures the tone of exploration, ambition and wonder really well. Besides Hiccup and Toothless are awesome (Hiccup's hair even looks awesome from the back :') )!
This is why I'm strongly against any inclusion of Ruffnut/Eret romance, it jars with this idealism I have of this movie.
Oh course they are going to focus the majority of the movie on Hiccup and Toothless' story! They'd have to, and nothing said it wasn't going to.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think it's not a bad idea to have Ruffnut taking a shine to Eret. Their relationship (if it turns out well) can bring Eret onto Hiccup/Valka/Berk's side, instead of Drago's. I love the idea of a seemingly antagonistic character joining the protagonists. I seriously doubt they'll focus on that romance very much; only enough to see how Eret moves over to the good-guys.
It's great to have a minor character play a role in a subplot (Eret trapping dragons problem) that can make a HUGE impact on the outcome of the war with Drago later on. It gives that character a broader story and purpose in the films. Now what needs to happen, is to find something for the other supporting characters (Snoutlout, Tuffnut, and Fishlegs) to do that'll be relatively important to the plot or subplots. And I think those will be reached by or at least in the third movie.
I thought Snoutlout would be next! lol! It's awesome to see the twins though, and they look great! Until now, I didn't know their eyes were blue. I thought they were green! My only complaint is I was hoping to see Tuff's locks... ;3;
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else notice that J-14 edited their article again and deleted the comments as well? what a mess.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on this one. not only is this subplot offensive and demeaning, its also totally unnecessary. This isn't a TV show where you can have a million things going on at once, this is a movie with a very limited amount of time to tell a good, coherent story. The background characters didn't need a lot of focus in the first film to make it successful and they don't need it now either, especially with the addition of three new very important characters that we still have to get to know.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen so far with the series of DoB, I thought the series team want to bring out more focus and story with the other character like Hiccup's team, you know, like Fishlegs, Snotlout, the twins and Astrid since they don't get much in the first movie and RoB. I don't see much more of Hiccup and Toothless compared to RoB. So I thought, maybe DoB was for the other character's spotlight.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I see this subplot. *sigh* I honestly only want to see more story on Hiccup-Toothless-Stoick-Valka-Astrid in the sequel movie. Che. And here I thought they will stop bringing more subplot with the other characters after DoB. Whatever they do, I hope the story around the character won't be too bad and rush as the time for most animated movie isn't 2-hour long.
...On the other hand, I still have hope for the whole story in the sequel as most voice actors even commented that the story will be amazing and fantastic.
agreed
ReplyDeleteI agree and all but I mean maybe the books will enplane more to us
ReplyDeleteI didn't really expect Ruffnut to fall for anyone, but I think it's cool if she is interested in Eret. I mean come on, we should be glad that it's not Snotlout.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that the poll was about which character will COME next. I thought I was suppose to put the character I WANT to see next. :D
ReplyDeleteI feel like there's too much going on in this poster... I was really hoping each twin would get their own...
ReplyDeleteAlso does anyone know if dreamworks is going to make augmented reality posters for HTTYD2?
ReplyDeleteIs that a FeralHeart screenshot in your icon? With Toothless?!
ReplyDeleteYuppers o3o
ReplyDelete7th one is that a bald spot, 3rd one got slaped, last one please stop pulling my danm hair
ReplyDeleteTheir dragon is literally stuck together, so I assume that rule applies to the rider. Although, I would've preferred if we could see more of the twins' bodies.
ReplyDeleteOr Gobber.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, right, I confused them.
ReplyDeleteWell the people who voted that these two...four were going to be on the next poster were right. XD I was wrong. I wanted to Eret 'cause he wasn't in the trailers. And Ruff's the last single lady in Berk? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteXD Ha! I saw the last one on tumblr with the caption "The Pride of Berk" XDDDDD Oh god Berk's boned. Just kidding, but if anybody important saw those pics Hiccup would never live it down. XDDDDDDDD
ReplyDeleteI agree. With JemWolf and Christine. It makes sense that they would have to share a poster, but at the same time you don't know where to focus on.
ReplyDeleteI call 'im Shovelface thanks to Honest Trailers. XD
ReplyDeleteHey I just went to see frozen and the first preview they showed was how to train your dragon 2's teaser trailer! They also had a GIANT hiccup and toothless poster hanging high on the wall. I wish I had taken a pic or video of my reaction to both the poster and trailer.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I totally agree! I mean, sure its great that Ruffnut is getting some attention, but they should do that in the tv series instead of the movie. That way, while the kids watch the movie for its art, humor, and action, the teens and adults can still be taken through the emotional part of the story, just like the first one did.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are all turning on DreamWorks like a pack of wolves just because we were told Ruffnut likes Eret... That does not under any circumstances mean the movie is trashed.. Come on everyone, have some faith..
ReplyDeletewait isn't that barracuda's toothless mesh that he converted from wild skies that i converted into feralheart along with other dragons
ReplyDeletewAIT I THINK IT IS
YEP
tuff look like a caveman from the croods. ruff however looks fine.
ReplyDeleteI think the AR app will be updated a few weeks befor the release when the TV spots are out.
ReplyDeleteOMG !!!! They're so ugly.I'm sorry for them
ReplyDeleteDon't ya worry Ruff. Snotlout finds you attractive XD
ReplyDeleteI was so happy this character poster were the nuts. They are my favourite characters X3
SNOTLOUT!!!!! (where are you ???)
ReplyDeleteOh, and for all of you sad about the Eret x Ruffnut thing, just remember: Eret is 25, and Ruffnut is 18 - 19. I wouldn't worry about it. That age gap would never be canon in a DreamWorks movie
ReplyDeleteWhile I can't speak for anyone else, for me, this is just the latest problem I see with the movie as we know it. Now, while it is true that this is far from the biggest problem with the film, it is the most pointless. Is Ruffnut's love life truly vital to the story? Does anyone actually care about it enough to cut other stuff out for it (and as I've said before, something has got to give here)? At least with other problems, I can see some reason why they made their way into the movie, but this is just bizarre.
ReplyDeleteAs for faith, sorry, but I've been disappointed too many times to let myself be let down again that easily.
Regarding the voice actors hyping up the film: that happens for every major studio release, and probably most other films as well. And in today's statement of the obvious: most films aren't that great, and in fact, a lot are outright bad. Now, there are many reasons why the people working on a movie would hype it up, but regardless of the reason, it doesn't follow from the hype that the movie will be any good at all.
ReplyDeleteIf you give in to the hype, then you're much more likely to be disappointed. Believe me, I've been there and done that. Just a warning.
At least Ruffnut knows Snotlout. Eret's basically a stranger.
ReplyDeleteHaving a random antagonist join the good guys because he or she is in love with some random member of the other side is just lazy. Rather than have some ideological or practical reason for the change of heart, it just amounts to, "Oh, I just completely changed my outlook on life because I love character x, even though the reason I love character x has basically nothing to do with which side she's on, and it's a complete change from my entire life to date!"
ReplyDeleteYou want a good reason for Eret to change sides? How about this?
Eret enjoys trapping dragons, but bears no ill will towards them (note that the traps we have seen in the trailer appear to be relatively harmless). Seeing what Drago is actually doing, and deciding it's messed up, he decides to change sides. After all, even the good guys could use the services of a great dragon trapper to handle any rogue dragons (imagine how much more quickly some episodes of Riders/Defenders of Berk could have been resolved if they'd had Eret).
There, I just gave a perfectly good explanation, with both ideological and practical reasons, for Eret to change sides, without having to rely on trite Hollywood romance, and without having to introduce another subplot that takes precious time away from the film's supposed protagonists.
With all that said, the film will almost certainly go down the path you suggested, and that gives Ruffnut more purpose in the film than Hiccup and Toothless combined. Ruffnut. Ruff. Nut.
And yet there are still people who act like there's any sensible reason to suppose that Hiccup and Toothless are the main characters in this film.
Actually, Valka's infinitely more qualified to deal with the war and the giant dragon than Hiccup is, and those are the two main plotlines.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you basing that on, exactly? What is their purpose in the film? What can they do that Valka (or heck, Ruffnut now - she's the one with the inside track to Drago's right-hand man) can't? In short, how are they going to be the heroes when there are other characters who are infinitely more qualified in every way to save the day?
ReplyDeleteThis is a society that's just coming off three centuries of fighting dragons, to the extent where that was the centre of their culture. I'm pretty sure rough women would have been, and thus still are (five years is not that long in the context of a society), the norm. Remember, Ruffnut is by no means a social reject in the first movie. That's Hiccup's position. For that matter, Astrid was just as rough as Ruffnut in many ways, and she was the favoured teen until Hiccup started training dragons.
ReplyDeleteYeah they'll probably have some on the app but do you think they'll actually have printed out AR posters hung in movie theaters and wherever else they advertise?
ReplyDeleteWell yeah I mean like eventually will they have them lol. I just wasn't sure if physical AR posters were a thing they were trying to roll out or if they're just restricting them to the app.
ReplyDeleteNice. The twins look great.
ReplyDeleteI think that Ruff-Eret love story is a good idea for the film. Finally we'll have an another couple! But yes, it puts the Hiccup - Toothless friendship to the background. And also interesting, if we don't seen Eret and the chaser Ruff in the trailer.
ReplyDeleteI voted for them! :D
ReplyDeleteOh God, guys... you're grew up very fast!
Um, why does the movie need another romance? Heck, how is another romance even a good thing, especially if it pushes the supposed protagonists to the background?
ReplyDeleteYeah. I got on the forums to find some new meshes and I saw those, and I downloaded them (I can't remember who posted the download link though, it's been about a year since I got those). I got a couple versions of Toothless, the Zippleback, Nadder, Gronckle, Nightmare, and a Scauldron. I'm glad you converted those meshes for us! They're loads of fun ^^ You got credit :)
ReplyDeleteguys new episode descriptions
ReplyDeleteeel effect
toothless catches a flu that spreads through berk
smoke gets in your eyes
a rouge dragon steals the towns metal (probably a smothering SMOKEbreath)
bing bang boom
adolescent thunderdrums menace berk
cast out part 1
Snotlout is expelled from the academy; Alvin returns to Berk to make amends.
I am soooo excited
When we didn't see that in the trailer, I think that's a sign it won't be a huge deal in the film. But if Ruff is interested in Eret at all, that can prove vital to getting an antagonist to switch sides, and whether or not that happens, will have greater importance LATER ON in the trilogy. Now, they don't have to end up in a relationship, but with Ruffnut pursuing Eret, he can at the very least get a glimpse of the protagonist side, then make his decision. He is going with the side that he believes is most likely to win. But Ruff might explain something to him how "Berk has a better reason to fight back" (obviously not that short and corny, but you get my point xD) that is convincing enough for Eret to think about coming over to the other side of the war.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get this info? Sounds exciting though!
ReplyDeleteReally? that is weird.
ReplyDeleteYou can't make character seem boring though. You have to add depth, other wise their true purpose is limited.
ReplyDeleteI think you're way too pessimistic here. And if you're so disappointed with what you're seeing, stop commenting. Don't say anything if you don't have anything positive to say at all. I'm absolutely sick of people here being so negative. Dean Deblois said there was a story to be told in the trilogy and he's feeling quite positive about it. And listen to the cast, too. They were sincere when they meant the sequel looked fantastic. Of course some of them could be saying that to make people think it's gonna be totally awesome, but I, at least, have faith that they mean it, and so do others.
ReplyDeleteon wiki but people could have just edited the page
ReplyDeleteit sounds correct though
yea i think it will be interesting
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's not a bad description for the final episodes of the season.
ReplyDeleteeveryone will be so excited about the thunderdrums!!!
ReplyDeleteHehe, I think we know particularly a few people who will be very happy! ;D
ReplyDeleteyea probably mastermiime
ReplyDeletei probably spelled that wrong :P
ReplyDeleteNah, it's close enough xD
ReplyDeletemy pet parakeets are going crazy right now
ReplyDeletethat was random
ReplyDeletewould be awsome!!!!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteRuff will develop a crush on Eret? While he starts as a villain working for an even more superior villain?
ReplyDeleteI can't think about Ruffnut chasing someone. Especially since it is one of the twins. I think it will be funny. I hope it wouldn't take too much of a time and obscure the real plot. On the other hand, I'm glad Ruff will be receiving some spotlight...
...and this leaves Snotlout with no potential girlfriend.
I think you seem to have pretty much problem and worried too much about this. What's wrong about a movie with a sub plot anyway? I think it will play much to the comedic side, and possibly will turn the tide for the good side, since well, Eret starts as an antagonist at the start. Just relax and don't judge too much.
ReplyDeleteHey, now that you mention it, I remember Dean said there will be some characters from the previous story who will play much more crucial plot as the story progresses... more or less. Is it possible this starting from Ruffnut?
ReplyDeleteI know who I'm focusing at: Ruffnut and Barf and Belch's happy faces XD
ReplyDeleteActually I always had my eyes on Ruffnut, so when I hear she'll be after Eret... I'm jealous! XD
Very good point!! That's what I was getting at, and you're right, he did say the lesser characters from the first movie will become increasingly important throughout the trilogy. Obviously they won't be bigger than Hiccup and Toothless, but they can still be heroes who'll help the main hero achieve their goal!
ReplyDeleteLOL awww! They like hearing about the new episodes too! xD
ReplyDeletehaha yea
ReplyDeleteI voted for them too! <3
ReplyDeleteAbout new episodes I found on wikipedia:
ReplyDeleteThe Eel Effect:
Toothless catches a flu that spreads throughout Berk (Does an eel can give a dragon fall sick?)
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes:
A rogue species of dragon steals the town's metal. (This might be Gobber's episode, but then again, from the title and stealing the metals part, this could be the second of appearance Smothering Smokebreath)
Bing! Bang! Boom!
Adolescent Thunderdrums menace Berk. (This is no doubt will be Thornado's episode)
Cast Out, Part I
Snotlout is expelled from the academy; Alvin returns to Berk to make amends. (Why does Snotlout gets expelled? And Alvin seems alive as well and seeking for a truce?)
None of these remaining episodes seem to feature the Screaming Death, which makes me think Screaming Death will be reserved in future season or the second part of season finale. And about Bing! Bang! Boom!... I have a feeling (if this synopsis is true to be told) I may already know how this will end, but it's just merely a guess...
Anyway, take these with a grain of salt.
Ummm... Well there's a lot of reasons. For example the trailer. Focusing on Hiccup right? If he and Toothless weren't the main characters any more, DW would probably have told something... otherwise they're in trouble
ReplyDeleteIf you must know, they are there from the first place for nothing. Even comedic characters could receive some serious moments too. After all, I doubt it will take much that screentime it obscures the whole plot.
ReplyDeleteAnd, for the second, if you ever wondering, in the books, Snotlout and Fishlegs are actually pretty important characters.
I know I do, and I'm already start guessing about what will become of Thornado.
ReplyDeleteHey, don't forget me :3
ReplyDeleteTheirs supposed to be another poster after snotlout right? What if it features the whole gang instead of valka or eret?
ReplyDeleteErrr I wrote it weird a little, but I was thinking something about when the other characters had more role and focusing than the first film.
ReplyDeleteI like this vignette, it's hilarious, especially Stoick's expression when he got thrown off to outer space. These Gronckles are sneaky! XD
ReplyDeleteof course! XD
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or did Ruffs hair darken to brown? You can best see it right by the "Dragons 2" logo where her hair is. It looks brown!
ReplyDeleteAccording to zap2it episode 17 is called Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and the description says: A rogue species of dragons steals the town's metal. Seems like the smokebreaths are back!
ReplyDeletehow funny is that rob the smokebreaths appered in episode17 and know again in dob again there doing the same kind of thing now for the seiseon and I hate to say this but douse anyone else feel like the tv series is beginning to make you bord?
ReplyDeletetheir doing the same kind of thing now for season 2 and making it simpler to session 1 and I hate to say this but douse anyone else feel like the tv series is beginning to make you board?
ReplyDeletelighting I blem the lighting
ReplyDeleteAmmm then.... When they will defeat the Screaming Death? There isn't one episode about that in your list! You know, DoB will have only 20 episodes.
ReplyDeleteWe don't know everything yet. Maybe Ruffnut will be kind of like a weak point and Eret will use her to get to Toothless and/or Hiccup.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have noticed every time you comment its very negative and either bashes DreamWorks anything HTTYD related. If you don't like it or think its not going to be good, thats fine. But please don't take it out on the rest of us. No one likes Eeyore's rain cloud.
Hiccup looks really orange on my monitor XD
ReplyDeleteHi! These are some sketches that I did.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else itching to find out if Cloudjumper is in the strike class? In the trailer he/she seemed to have more of a personality, similar to Toothless, which shows intelligence. Plus I really hope that in the movie Toothless will try to "play it cool" around Cloudjumper.. XD
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to post em! :)
ReplyDeleteI posted them. Maybe you cant see it?
ReplyDeleteTo the best of my knowledge, there is no rule against posting criticism of official material. Therefore, I have just as much of a right to post said criticisms as other people have to post how they love every little thing we've been shown.
ReplyDeleteAs for your idea, how exactly could Eret use Ruffnut to get to Hiccup and Toothless? Ruffnut doesn't exactly spend a lot of alone time with our supposed protagonists. For that matter, why even go to that much effort for one dragon and rider, who aren't even all that powerful in the big scheme of things?
I worry because I care, because I love the original film and don't want its legacy tarnished with a lousy sequel (I'm also a fan of The Land Before Time; needless to say, I've had enough of lousy sequels to last several lifetimes).
ReplyDeleteAs for the subplot, at best, it's a waste of time in a movie that doesn't have any time to waste. At worst, well, you said it right there - Ruffnut turns the tide for the good side? Ruffnut? Ruffnut? We don't even have an actual purpose for Hiccup and Toothless yet, and Ruffnut's just given more contribution to the plot, within your theory, than they have.
What? what are you talking about? Mind if you give us the pic or link here?
ReplyDeleteWait do you mean you cant see them or I said I was going to post them, but forgot?
ReplyDeleteI'm pessimistic because I've found optimism to be pointless at best, and outright harmful at worst. Note that this only applies to things I can't change, but the quality of a movie that I am not working (unless I have some form of multiple personality disorder, combined with teleportation abilities) would most assuredly fall into that category.
ReplyDeleteNot that that's really relevant, as, to the best of my knowledge, there is no rule against criticising official material (for which I am very grateful to IcelandicEel and anyone else associated with the running of this site)
As for DeBlois and the cast hyping up the film, as I've said before, that is the case for every major studio release in the last decade at least, and probably before. Now, there are definitely multiple possible explanations for this. One is conscious, in that they're deliberately hyping the film up to be better than it is. The other is unconscious, in that they legitimately think it's good, much better than it actually is, because they're biased owing to having worked on it. If you're ever written a story and come back to it years later, you'll have some idea of this.
Either explanation is possible, and there are probably other ones that I have missed, but the point is simple: hype doesn't really mean anything. Therefore, I put no stock in it, and focus on more concrete information, footage, etc.
Also, for what it's worth, outside of this topic, people have been overwhelmingly positive, and even within this topic, there seems to be more positive responses than negative responses. Rather disturbingly so, actually; some people are setting themselves up for disappointment. I don't intend to be one of them.
