Dragons 2: Second Highest Rated Animated Film Ever
Posted on Sunday, June 29, 2014 by IcelandicEel
How to Train Your Dragon 2 has the second highest rating of all time for any animated film on IMDb, second only to Spirited Away! It's also the 204th highest-rated film of all time, above films like Monsters, Inc. (226th), and Beauty and the Beast (245th), and Jurassic Park (246th)!
This is such a great film to be a fan of — DreamWorks has definitely spoiled us with this movie's quality and attention to detail. Condragulations to the Dragons crew for making such a fantastic film!

ReplyDeleteBooya! First time joined the discussion this quickly
ReplyDeleteWow... I'm so proud to be a fan atm! I mean, I love the film and always have and always will... and I loved the second one just about equally, but to see others seeing the quality in the film we all have grown to love so much, it's a great, great feeling!
ReplyDeleteHTTYDForever101? Are you on?
ReplyDeletewooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
ReplyDeleteWell that's good to know :), interesting critics seem to like it
ReplyDeletebut on box office it sadly is failing. :(
This is amazing! It's one thing to love a movie, but it's another thing to love a movie that has proof it's amazing beyond amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're back on! I've missed you!
ReplyDeleteI think Spirited Away is a good movie, even though I still prefer HTTYD. There are few movies that I'd be okay with having a higher score than HTTYD, and that's one of them.
ReplyDelete2nd of all time. What an honour, am I right or not?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just wanna ask if you know why no one is getting my replies? People are getting my new comments, but not my replies.
Keep in mind that HTTYD2 has only around 30k-ish votes, the other ones on the list have been out much longer and have multiple hundred thousands.... Its cool that its rated #2 but don't be too disappointed if it doesn't stay there is all!
ReplyDeleteDepends on your taste.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't really know why that is happening. I haven't changed anything.
ReplyDeleteI just looked at the IMDB, and Dragons 2 has moved up! It's now the 200th highest rated film of all time!
ReplyDelete199. The King's Speech (2010)8.1RATE200. How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)8.1RATE201. Jaws (1975)8.1RATE202. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)8.1RATE
Yes! Now only Spirited Away left then it's the highest rated Animated Film on IMDb!
ReplyDeleteto be fair dreamworks animation is having a contest and if anyone wins they get a tour of dreamworks and gets to try the voice recording ive already enterd
ReplyDeleteYAY! Good for DW!! :D
ReplyDeleteThis is AWESOME! X3
ReplyDeleteHTTYDForever101?
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm on now. Sorry my friend had to find the security key.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for them!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen or heard of Spirited Away until now.
ReplyDeleteI think I know this, but it has a totally different name in Germany.... xD
ReplyDeletelol, I haven't heard of any animated movie except lion king and httyd xD
ReplyDeleteI'm still around... I just try not to use the grapevine as a personal discussion page. I run the blog when I can, but I've been busy this summmer... though not busy enough to keep me from posting from time to time.
ReplyDeleteimpressive most impressive even surpassing disney classics like beauty and the best and the lion king
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Dreamworks! May the third sequel gets greater and expand the franchise even more :)
ReplyDeleteDRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS *catches breath and inhales greatly* DRAGONSDRAGONSDRAGONSDRAGONSDRAGONS
ReplyDelete4th film not a good idea
ReplyDeletebtw enjoy this http://www.tumblr.com/reblog/90205073908/PH2mn0ed
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about toys, tv specials, games and etc. doesn't have to be film.
ReplyDeleteHey guys long time no see 😏😏😏😖😖
ReplyDeleteastrid
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeletehiccstrid wedding in httyd3
ReplyDeletebtw spirited away is a anime movie
ReplyDeleteHTTYDForever101?
ReplyDeleteI have successfully made my own skin for Minecraft!
ReplyDeleteYes! It's kind of awesome how it's the second movie out of three, and it's in second place! Go DreamWorks and Dragons!<3
ReplyDeleteAwesome! What is it of?
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty good, I only watched it twice in my life. :/
ReplyDeleteI'm honestly not wanting a wedding in How to Train Your Dragon 3...it seems, I dunno. :/ Just, weird? I'm fine with Hiccup and Astrid being wed, but I don't want to see it in the movie, series, or any shorts. It doesn't seem...right? They can kiss, hold hands, etc,. but I just don't feel strong about seeing an animated DreamWorks wedding for Dragons 3...
ReplyDeletePeople are going to hate me for that. I have more reasons why, but I'm lazy and yep...*puts on fire protection to keep away from haters*
Burn Her!
ReplyDeleteJK
0o0 NUUU! *runs* xD
ReplyDeleteI'm not the only one who thought against the wedding idea; my friends did too. xD
And to be honest, it would definitely weird, seeing as his best man would be a dragon
ReplyDeleteOMGs Toothless in a bow tie
I'm fine with the third sequel starts with Hiccup and Astrid being already wedded as husband and wife. This way the story can put more better focus on the important part with Hiccup and Toothless. Alternately I also love the idea of Hiccup and Astrid wedding for the third sequel. i'm fine with both ideas.
ReplyDeleteHey Dragon Pride, I'm on now.
ReplyDeleteto youtube! *plays Batman music*
ReplyDeleteOk, to youtube!
ReplyDeleteThat would be cute but weird :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gods...if my tablet was working I'd draw that. xD To the sketch pad! *if I can find it! xD*
ReplyDeleteI'm all about the anime bro... x3
ReplyDeleteI got several movies from Studio Ghibli too! Hayao Miyazaki is boss. ;)
yeah and speaking of anime hiccup is alot like naruto once considered an outcast but then respected even the author of the manga gave it high praise now if only he would take notes from the relationship aspect from hiccstrid lol i still ship him with sakura though
ReplyDeleteOMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS AMAZING IM SO GLAD AND HAPPY!!!!!!!! Oops caps was on! :) this is AWESOME!!!!!! CONCRADULATIONS Dream Works for creating this Amazing movie!!!
ReplyDeletehttydforever101?
ReplyDeleteWell if that were the case then why isn't doing well in theaters? Ok, all of you international fans watch HTTYD2 like crazy when it comes out in your respective countries! I don't care if you have to see it everyday, just do it!
ReplyDeleteYou play Minecraft?!
ReplyDelete:o
I do too :P
relax it already passed its budget its not gonna pull a hey arnold where the final movie isn't made
ReplyDeletebut its understandable to worry i just hope there's no 4th film cuz im sure fans remember how it turned out for shrek they planned a trilogy so they should end it like that
ReplyDeleteo.O Above The Lion King?!
ReplyDeleteD: You are missing out buddy.
ReplyDeleteIT BEAT JAWS! YAY!
ReplyDeletebtw guys astrid wants to be chief lol http://herocomplex.latimes.com/movies/how-to-train-your-dragon-2-america-ferrera-wants-astrid-as-chief/#/0 btw what did you guys think of her role in the movie
ReplyDeleteyup
ReplyDeleteo.O
ReplyDeleteI am clapping and cheering into my empty kitchen right now! This is amazing! *happiness*
ReplyDeletePeople complained about Hiccup not giving the chief role to Astrid, and I think that is a stupid idea.
ReplyDeleteBut Astrid wanting to be chief is quite funny.
Wow! This is amazing, it even surpasses one of my other animated movies; The Lion King! That must be an impressive feat for DWA. I hope this stays at that list forever! XD
ReplyDeleteWith that being said, even before I know about How to Train Your Dragon, I always love dragons and this whole franchise, created by DWA, takes this legendary creature to a whole new level. Some might not agree with me about this but I dare to say HTTYD is the best dragon-themed movie ever so far, and the fact that it's not even a live action movie makes it so special. This also wouldn't happen if Cressida Cowell didn't have the idea about it, so... kudos for both parties, Mrs. Cowell and DreamWorks Animation! Also to Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders and Bonnie Arnold!
How am I proud to be a aprt of fandom, though it slight embarassed me, because to think that I don't have many HTTYD related things... it probably makes me seen not as much as Dragons anthusiast, but still... I'm proud! Long live Dragons to every Dragons out there! :D
Umm... When I watched it... There was like 50 people.... Good enough?
ReplyDeleteI heard the rumor that the final movie will be split into two parts, so that's probably what the fourth movie will deliver, if that's true.
ReplyDeleteNEVA.
ReplyDeleteWell, me too. I love to see Astrid and Hiccup together, but a wedding... that doesn't seem like it. How did real Vikings hold a wedding ceremony?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, might as well if they end up together, which they will, I believe, put them already living together, as adults. Or at different case, simply just put them still in a relationship but not yet married.
Astrid and Stormfly, both are my third fav character. For me, Astrid's role in the HTTYD 2 fits her well. What she did, how she acts, her role as Hiccup's support and confidante. Everything is good enough already :). I wonder what will be her role in the third sequel :)
ReplyDeletebest news and wonderful too
ReplyDeleteThey don't have to show them getting married. But they could say at the end that they are.
ReplyDeleteIt's meant to look like a pioneer/miner/Viking.
ReplyDeleteIn that time period, that would have made Astrid little more than a concubine, and would have ruined her reputation and life. Marriage was considered serious business back in the day, intended to solidify a relationship for having children. It was not just an extended boyfriend/girlfriend thing like it is largely considered now.
ReplyDeleteI think they'll be married next film. Whether this be on or off screen is beyond be. Part of me also wonders, if the dragons supposedly end up leaving, will this be the trigger? Or will they end up with kids or something? If the movies as a whole give us "loss for a win" endings, what would the win be?
Or maybe that's just my "Hiccstrid" side taking over.
Hey Dragon Pride, you on? I'll be on.
ReplyDeleteHey guys! Here's my Minecraft skin!http://missuny.deviantart.com/art/Minecraft-Missuny-s-skin-464585306
ReplyDeleteHttydforever101?
ReplyDeleteYep, I am still on.
ReplyDeleteTo YouTube?
ReplyDeleteYes! To youtube!
ReplyDeleteExactly what would be good, they could give off hints that they're married; which would just be you know, kissing, hand holding, braiding his hair xD
ReplyDeleteViking weddings are very strange, I've never found much information on them but I know some traditional viking dresses and that this is where a woman who is being wed will have her hair down for the public to see for the last time, because she'll have to keep it in braids or something and only her husband can see it down or whatever.
ReplyDeleteIt's so HOT! *dies* xD JK, if my cousin was here he'd slap me in the face for that since he served in Afghanistan for four years. xP
ReplyDeletethey also complained about her not being in the family moments but thats for hiccup she had her own part to play besides she wasn't gonna sit down and take stoicks orders and as dean said she saved hiccup they are equals btw did you read the httyd comic
ReplyDeleteOr if we see a ring on their fingers. ;)
ReplyDeleteOMG it's right under Spirited away! That is so awesome!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when the HTTYD 2 short's are coming out
ReplyDelete'Dawn of The Dragon Racers' is included in the pre ordering for Dragons 2 on ITunes.
ReplyDeleteOkay...but, that isn't our choice. It's Cressida Cowell's and the HTTYD 3 movie directors/script writers job. That's kind of stupid; this petition so I will NOT be signing it.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteWhy are people trying to petition to change the ending of Dragons 3? We don't really know what's going to happen, so why bother? Are people insane?
ReplyDeletethey should stay true to the ending they want
ReplyDeleteWords that I'm happy to hear! I want an ending that DreamWorks plans for us, not something we decide!
ReplyDeleteWhoever put that petition to change the ending of HTTYD 3; please take it down. That pickles my pickles! If you honestly think this movie and the book franchise will end happily and fluffy like, you're wrong. Have you been paying attention whatsoever? That disgusts me!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when the HTTYD 2 short's are coming out
ReplyDeleteYour choice
ReplyDeleteDidn't we go over this already
ReplyDeleteeven if toothless is gone he has astrid and his mother
ReplyDeleteyes I did read it
ReplyDelete100. Yay?
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand why people want to change the ending. I'm like the second youngest person here and I really want a bitter ending. I don't understand. How will you be destroyed by seeing Hiccup and Toothless being separated? I don't understand.
No way HTTYD 2, or No way i got 1st comment?
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteD: Just heard of Hiccelsa.
ReplyDeleteNEVA. EVA. IN. UR. LIFE.
Instead of petitioning for the ending of a movie that we know nothing about, why don't you petition for something important? Like, to help the needy or something?
ReplyDeleteD: Good God! They'll ship anything!!
ReplyDeleteOr helping kids in Uganda.
ReplyDeleteBefore we know it, we'll have some kind of HiccupxDrago.
ReplyDeleteGET THAT IMAGE OUT OF MY MIND.
D:
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for Eret/Hiccup to come up.
I can't believe people are doing this. What a waste.
ReplyDeleteWait, WHAT?!
ReplyDeleteI'm very proud of HTTYD 2. I think it definitely deserves that spot. I haven't seen Spirited Away so I can't say anything about it. However, the fact that it beat out The Lion King! Kudos for Dreamworks! The Lion King has been one of my favorite for a long time and HTTYD/HTTYD 2 are now in the top. Even Frozen didn't get on the top 4! All I can say is thank you Dreamworks for a fantastic movie, design, and detail. you did an amazing job and you totally deserve that spot.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Congrats, DreamWorks. :D
ReplyDeleteWho here seen HTTYD 2??
ReplyDelete199 overall now. :D
ReplyDeleteWait, wait, wait, wait. I know this has nothing to do with Dragons 2, but... Wall-E is ranked higher than any of the Toy Story films or Up???
ReplyDeletePeople have already shipped it.
ReplyDeleteI looked on Fanfiction after watching the movie for the first time and there it was!
*cough**cough*
ReplyDeleteDone already
*cough**cough*
What's wrong with Hiccelsa?
ReplyDeleteI like that pairing a bit.
I even like the one with Hiccup/Anna.
Sorry, we can move our conversation to YouTube if you want?
ReplyDelete120
ReplyDeletei got the messege frozen delivered but it wasn't handled very well
ReplyDeleteBasically, the only rule here is it has to be dragon-related. Other than that, anything is fine!
ReplyDeleteD:
ReplyDelete*Laughs nervously* Ha...Ha...Ha...
ReplyDelete*Tries not to go crazy* Nice....Pairing....
*Loses all control*
WHAT?!
Oh, and no swearing, obviously.
ReplyDeleteYES!!!! WAY THE GO!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you too. I know there is going to be another time skip like from dragons 1 to dragons 2 so it's quite possible they would already be married and stuff. Still, it would be weird.
ReplyDeleteThere is a certain freedom to storytelling, one everyone is entitled to. Just because people don't like how your story ended, doesn't mean you should change it. It's the same with Dragons 3. We don't even know for certain if they will use that kind of ending.
ReplyDeleteWasn't everyone worried that they would ruin the story with Dragons 2? If they did a good job with that, I'm sure they'll handle Dragons 3 well.
Just my opinion.
I think that it would be great if the beginning of the story would be Hiccup proposing to Astrid and Astrid accepted it. Then it skipped a few years later with Hiccup and Astrid already married and going through their new lives at Berk.
ReplyDeleteno way httyd 2
ReplyDeleteI am not going to take it down. Some people wan't them to stay together, and just because it disgusts you that dosen't mean other have to have the same opinion. I already wen't over this with 3 other people so don't drag this out. If someone want's to join that's their decision if they don't that's also their decision. Just a heads up there are 915 supporters.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone
ReplyDeleteThat's good. It's marketing from Dragons.
ReplyDeleteWOOOOO! YEAH!
ReplyDeleteYes! This is our movie, that are our dragons! XD
ReplyDeleteI personally think Dragons should be #1 :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely but i still wan't Hiccup and Toothless to stay together in the end. Also i am so glad you're one of the few people who understand that i did this because my OPINION about the petition was that i chose to support it
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of Spirited Away.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why it's struggling at the box office is because it came the same week as 22 Jump Street. Just like Kung Fu Panda 2 came out the same week as Hangover 2. Only this time 22 Jump Street turned out to be good, so HTTYD2 was struggling to earn 1st place. And it doesn't help that Transformers 4 came out 2 weeks later.
ReplyDeleteI think.... a little part of me just died :'(
ReplyDelete*sad clap*
Don't know if it will happen
ReplyDeleteI doubt it with Dreamworks doing sequels to the Croods and puss in boots in the next four years along with the possible final chapter of Madagascar
ReplyDeleteWhat's your point
ReplyDeleteOk I am just going to see what happens two years from now instead of signing that petition because we don't know for sure what ending we are in for good or bad but I'm fearing it's pretty obvious the tragic events that happened three weeks ago (promise not to give spoiler away) may be the precursor to the final test of Toothless devotion to Hiccup. Things will be revealed in time
ReplyDeleteIf you are talking about HTTYD 2 spoilers then PM me because i have seen it already here is my forum profile
ReplyDeletehttp://forums.berksgrapevine.com/profile/3825971/
I signed your stinking petition happy now
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying and I don't want to give spoilers away besides I felt WTF moment coming on
ReplyDeleteNo not really i posted this because sure i wan't people to sign but i don't want to make people do it unvillingly
ReplyDeleteI don't know WTF moment you are talking abput sorry
ReplyDeleteNvm
ReplyDeleteAnd I want them to stay together too
ReplyDeleteWho knows if Valka will survive just as she survived the ill fated family reunion
ReplyDeleteI only signed because my mind was debating
ReplyDeleteI mean debating weither the seperation has got to be done Hiccup and toothless must take back all the failures these last few years reading the petition convinced me to sign it
ReplyDeleteFarther more, if you say we can change the ending and we can prevent a cliche in seperating Hiccup and Toothless i am not against you
ReplyDeleteHey there that petition of yours is already signing fast and I am so on your side
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteYour welcome you are really hoping this will persuade Dreamworks to rewrite the planned ending aren't you
ReplyDeleteYeah i am i don't think it will work but i still want to at least try to change the ending. And if were really lucky they won't change the ending but postpone it, that way we might get a fourth movie. So i really think we should try to get that fourth movie from Dreamworks. That way we may be able to see more of our favourite cheif and his best freind
ReplyDeleteProbably but i can dream right :D
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean
ReplyDeleteWell it's not often that i get as incredibly hyped about a fandom as i do about HTTYD. So i hope they will extend that fandom and make it last as long as possible
ReplyDeleteWe'll for the past few weeks I've been thinking after three movies they would consider doing a ballet version of the original film but that's too silly John Powells music makes me feel like it'd be good for ballet
ReplyDeleteBallet version?
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying because the music seems so suitable for dance
ReplyDeleteWe'll I so far see no point of a 4th movie but I've been with this fandom for the past 4 years and I immediately hailed Hiccup and Toothless as the ET and Elliot of our generation
ReplyDeleteYeah but we will have to wait to find out what they are actually going to do.
ReplyDeleteI agree because I keep wondering for several weeks now where do we go from here
ReplyDelete
